Have you ever walked into your own home and felt tired for no reason? The house looks fine, yet something feels heavy. Small fights keep happening. Work keeps getting stuck. Sleep does not feel restful. If this sounds familiar, it may be a sign of negative energy at home.

Many of us have felt this. Our elders knew this feeling well. The good news is that you do not need anything complicated to start clearing it. Diwali is the perfect time, because the whole festival is about cleaning out the old and welcoming the light.

Here are seven common signs, and easy things any family can do this week.

7 signs of negative energy at home

1. You feel tired the moment you walk in

You were fine at the office or at a friend's place. But at home, your energy drops. You want to lie down and do nothing.

2. Small arguments keep turning into big fights

A cup left on the table becomes a shouting match. Family members who love each other keep snapping at each other.

3. Work and plans keep getting stuck

Payments get delayed. Deals fall through at the last minute. You put in the effort, but nothing seems to move.

4. Nobody sleeps well

Children wake up crying. Adults toss and turn or have disturbing dreams, again and again.

5. Things keep breaking

Appliances fail, taps leak, bulbs fuse one after another. One problem is normal. A steady stream of them is what people notice.

6. Plants dry up quickly

You water them and care for them, but plants in some corners of the house simply do not grow.

7. Prayer feels hard

The diya does not stay lit. You sit for puja but your mind keeps running. The mandir corner feels ignored.

A quick note: many of these can also have everyday causes such as stress, clutter or a health issue. If someone is unwell, please see a doctor first. Spiritual care works best alongside practical care, not instead of it.

8 simple ways to clear negative energy before Diwali

You do not need a priest for any of these. Pick two or three and start today.

1. Clear the clutter first

Old newspapers, broken items, clothes nobody wears, stopped clocks. Stuck things keep energy stuck. Give away what is useful and throw out what is broken.

2. Open the windows every morning

Let sunlight and fresh air in for at least 15 minutes. Sunlight is the oldest cleanser we have.

3. Mop with salt water

Add a handful of sea salt or rock salt to your mopping water once a week, especially on Saturdays. Do not use it near the puja corner.

4. Keep the main door bright and clean

Wipe the door, sweep the entrance and hang a fresh toran of mango leaves or marigold. A clean, lit entrance invites good things in.

5. Light a diya every evening

Light a mustard-oil or ghee diya at sunset, near the main door or in the mandir. Even one small flame changes how a home feels.

6. Use camphor and loban

Burn a small piece of camphor or some loban (frankincense) and carry it through every room in the evening. Many families also add a few cloves.

7. Play or chant something positive

Play a bhajan, the Hanuman Chalisa or a simple mantra at home in the morning. Sound fills a house in a way nothing else can.

8. Pray together, even for five minutes

Sit together as a family, light the diya and say a short prayer. You can simply chant "Om Kreem Kalikayai Namah" 11 times and ask Maa Kali to protect your home.

Why Maa Kali?

Maa Kali can look fierce in pictures, so many people feel a little scared of her. But devotees see her the way a child sees a protective mother: gentle with her children and fearless against anything that tries to hurt them.

That is why families pray to her when they want negativity, fear and the evil eye (nazar) out of their lives. Her special nights this Diwali are Kali Chaudas on 7 November and Kali Puja on 8 November.

When home remedies are not enough

Sometimes you do everything right and the heaviness still does not lift. Problems keep repeating, or it feels as if someone wishes you harm. That is when people come to the Akhara.

At our Manali Ashram, the priests can perform a pooja with your name and gotra in the sankalp, and you can watch live from anywhere in the world:

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if my house has negative energy?

Look for patterns, not one-off events: constant tiredness at home, repeated fights, poor sleep, things breaking often, and work getting stuck. If several happen together for weeks, it is worth cleansing your home.

What is the fastest way to remove negative energy from home?

Start with three things today: remove clutter, mop with salt water, and light a diya with camphor in the evening. Most families feel a difference within a few days.

Does salt really remove negative energy?

Salt has been used for purification in Indian homes for generations. Mopping with salt water once a week is a simple, safe practice many families follow.

Which mantra protects the home?

"Om Kreem Kalikayai Namah" for Maa Kali and the Hanuman Chalisa are two of the most popular for protection. Chant with faith, even a few minutes a day.

Is Diwali a good time to cleanse the home?

Yes. Diwali cleaning is a cleansing ritual in itself. Clearing your home before Lakshmi Puja is believed to make space for blessings and prosperity.

A home is not just walls and furniture. It holds the mood of everyone who lives in it. Clean it, light it and fill it with prayer, and let this Diwali be a fresh start. Jai Maa Kali.
